The original cast of the 2010 horror film Insidious is back for Insidious Chapter 2. The film picks up immediately where the first one left off, where Josh (Patrick Wilson) has just come back from rescuing his son from a world known as The Further. The problem is, something else has returned with them and has taken over Josh's body.

I reviewed the film along with Kevin Taft and Aaron Fink on the PBS movie review show Just Seen It.

I loved how this sequel is an instant continuation from the first one. Most sequels begin months or even years later, but this one picks up immediately after the death of Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) and moves forward from there. This is the type of sequel that you can watch back-to-back with the first film like it's one long movie.

I also enjoyed the time travel aspect of this film. It's something one doesn't see much in the horror movie genre. Backstories here were not explained via flashbacks, as is often done, but by having present day characters travel to the past and learn about the bigger picture with the viewer along for the ride.

Aaron felt the film was a mix of way too many types of horror films from slasher pics to movies like Poltergiest and The Shining. Kevin pointed out that that is filmmaker James Wan's style - to just take what he likes from other films and put them together in one.
