Timothy Anselimo, who was shot three times, asked his half-brother watching the event on TV to "tell my mother I love her."
“My question I’m asking to America, I’m asking to Jacksonville, I’m asking to the state of Florida: What are we going to do about guns?”
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirmed the gunman and at least two other people had died.
The gym is run by the Police Athletic League, whose mission is to foster "positive relationships" between cops and kids. The mother says "they terrorized my son."
"I just want to give these freaking people a taste of their own medicine," the suspect said, according to police.
The undercover detective then made a comment that implied the accused would be raped while in prison.
“It’s outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated.”
Police in Jacksonville found the gigantic pipe strapped to the roof of a vehicle.
Officials warned the road to recovery would be "long and challenging."
