Pirated Copies Of "American Gangster" Being Sold Early

In a prominent movie piracy case, a high-quality version of Universal Pictures' Oscar hopeful "American Gangster" is being illegally downloaded online and sold by street vendors in Los Angeles more than a week before its release in theaters.

The movie, which stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, is being distributed by General Electric Co.'s Universal Pictures and is set to open on Nov. 2. Yet it has been available for about 24 hours on various filesharing sites, and high-quality DVDs were being sold for $5 in Los Angeles this morning.
