China Blocks Comedy Central Site Ahead of Games

Comedy Central fans in the Middle Kingdom will have to do without Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and South Park for the next couple months, at least until the Olympics are through. The network reported earlier this week on its official blog that its website, comedycentral.com, has been blocked in mainland China. According to a blogger at Comedy Central Insider:

I've always heard the Chinese love jokes, but that's evidently no longer the case. The People's Republic of China has officially blocked ComedyCentral.com.

What was the straw that broke the camel's back? I can't be sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with this network's unwavering opposition to the bastardization of checkers. Seriously though, checkers with marbles? Shame on you, Peoples Republic of China!

No official explanation was given by the Chinese government for the block.
