Israel, Washington Discuss International Monitor To Ensure End To Rocket Attacks

Israeli warplanes killed a senior Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip and hit the territory's parliament building as bombing continued Thursday. But with the militant group still firmly in control there Israeli officials appeared to open the door to a possible cease-fire.

Israel is discussing with Washington the possibility of establishing an international monitoring system that would keep Hamas from rearming during a cease-fire, and ensure an end to rocket attacks on Israel, said diplomats familiar with the discussions.
