Wimbledon 2009: Players, Seeds, Rankings and Schedules

Wimbledon begins June 22 this year at London's Centre Court, which, for the first year ever, will have its very own retractable roof! The real story, of course, is the will-he-or-won't-he chatter about Rafael Nadal, last year's champion, who plans on announcing in the next few days if knee injuries will keep him from defending his title against former five-time champion Roger Federer. Currently seeded in the number two slot, Federer could still rejoin the ranks of other Wimbledon greats, especially considering his recent win at the French Open.

On the women's side, Russia's Dinara Safina is seeded at number one, with Serena Williams at the number two slot and sister Venus in third place. Venus won the championship last year after a dramatic showdown with her sister. Maria Sharapova will be there as well after ten months out of the game due to injuries. The Russian is currently seeded in 65 place, but she and her signature shrieks will be closely watched on the court after a positive French Open showing.
