Motorola's "Droid Does" Android phone has gotten rave reviews (it's been called "the Android to beat"), so naturally, we've been keeping a close eye on the release date.
UPDATE: Verizon has officially unveiled the Motorola Droid smartphone and announced both the release date and price of the phone. According to Verizon, "DROID by Motorola arrives November 6."
TechCrunch explains,
Verizon just confirmed that the Moto Droid will arrive next week for $199 with a new, 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. Customers will need a voice plan starting at $39 and a web and email plan for $29 per month.
Verizon had featured what looked like a countdown clock on the Droid website at droiddoes.com, but there were other rumored release dates.
EnGadget suggested that the Droid Does phone would be officially unveiled October 28, given that Verizon announced that it would be holding a special event that day in order to "unleash" the "must-have device of the year."
PhoneArena thought you wouldn't even have to wait that long for the new Motorola Android phone. Given some leaked documents from Best Buy, PhoneArena said the phone was rumored to make an appearance at Best Buy as soon as October 24, 2009:
One of our tipsters has send us pictures of Best Buy's internal documentation that reveal an Android cell phone equipped with 5-megapixel camera and QWERTY keyboard, components that the Motorola Droid sports as well, is getting released through the retail network of the company on 24 October at a price of $599.99 without contract.
