Denver Public Schools Graduation Rates Headed In Right Direction, But Still Low

Graduation rates in Denver improved 3.2 percentage points last year -- the highest jump in six years -- but still only 52.7 percent of high school students graduated on time in 2009.

"We are not anywhere near where we need to be, in terms of percentages of our students who graduate from high school and those who are going on to college," said DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg. "This is the critical issue for the Denver Public Schools."

Earlier this year, the school board set a goal for the district to post five-point annual increases in the graduation rate, a mark tied to bonuses for Boasberg.
