Diane Sawyer Gives Ratings Bump To "World News" In Debut

Diane Sawyer gave a modest bump to ABC's "World News" with her debut Monday night, which averaged 8.9 million total viewers.

That wasn't enough to beat Brian Williams' 9.3 million on NBC, but it was up from the program's average. The New York Post notes that it was up 11% from the "World News" average, while the Los Angeles Times' Matea Gold notes that's up from this season's average of 8 million total viewers and the Monday average of 8.41 million viewers.

Last week, for Charlie Gibson's final week on the broadcast, "World News" averaged 8.5 million total viewers for second place. "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" averaged 9.2 million total viewers, while the "CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" averaged 6.2 million total viewers.
