Cold weather caused delays, but a Lake Champlain Bridge Demolition finally took place today at Crown Point, New York.
The Lake Champlain bridge, an 80-year-old structure connecting New York and Vermont, was deemed unsafe in October and closed. Officials feared the bridge could collapse and decided it was best to demolish the structure.
The demolition was preceded by warnings by area officials to stay away from ice on Lake Champlain as a precaution.
