DC's First Gay Marriages (VIDEO)

WATCH: DC's First Gay Marriages

Gay couples began marrying in Washington DC as soon as it was legal Tuesday morning, with some couples lined up in the wee hours in front of the Superior Courthouse with their parents and well-wishers.

The first two couples to get their wedding licenses ran out of the marriage bureau to get married within minutes, the Washington Post reported. The Post saw Jeremy Moon and Bryan Legaspi run up to the fifth floor of the courthouse to be married by their friend, Judge Brook Hedge, while James Betz and Robert Hawthorne headed outside to be married by a friend of theirs, former GW Hospital chaplain Rev. Bonnie Berger.

Among the first to wed were Angelisa Young and Sinjoyla Townsend, whose 12 years together were detailed in a Post profile Tuesday. ThinkProgress caught part of their marriage ceremony -- WATCH:
