Rethink Afghanistan: U.S. Should Stop Outsourcing To Military Contractors

On Sunday, the New York Times reported that a U.S. Defense Department official is under investigation for using private contractors to track and kill suspected militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

This is just the latest in a string of allegations of abuse and fraud by military contractors. Last month, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced legislation that would eliminate the use of private contractors in war zones.

"In my mind it is wrong and unacceptable for companies like Blackwater to operate outside the chain of command of the U.S. military," Sanders says. "I think they've proven themselves time and again to be irresponsible .... We should finally say no to that company," Schakowsky added.
