Dr. Rick Hodes, an American doctor who ministers to Ethiopia's ailing children, appeared this morning on Good Morning America with Marilyn Berger, the author of a new book about him. Hodes -- who anchor Bill Weir joked "could have a thriving practice out on Long Island" -- has spent 20 years in Ethiopia, where he has arranged life-saving surgery for over 60 children. He has personally adopted five.
Berger's book, "This Is a Soul," comes out today. It tells the story not only of Hodes' generosity, but also of the author's chance encounter with Danny, a boy suffering from spinal tuberculosis. Last year, the boy underwent surgery, and came to America to live with Berger and her husband, Don Hewitt, the creator of 60 Minutes who died last year.
