Marta Murphy, George Huguely's Mother, 'Devastated And Confused' By Yeardley Love's Death

For the first time since University of Virginia senior Yeardley Love's violent death May 3, the mother of alleged killer George Huguely has spoken.

Marta Murphy said in an e-mail to the Washington Post that it has been "difficult to remain silent" during "this dark, tumultuous time."

She wrote that she knew Yeardley and her mother well:

"I got to know her as George's mom. She was a sweet wonderful, young woman with a limitless future. We also know her mother, Sharon. The pain she and her family are suffering is something that no family should ever have to endure. No parent should have to bury a child, and not a moment goes by when they are not in our thoughts and our prayers."

Murphy and Huguely's father, George Huguely IV, have been divorced since 1998. She said that she and Huguely's father "will support George in whatever way [they] can -- just as any mother or father would do for their child."

Love's Saturday funeral brought out thousands of mourners. Huguely remains in jail. His next court date is June 10.
