'First Move' Teaches Kids Chess Strategies For Life (VIDEO)

In classrooms across the country, kids are forgoing multiplication tables in favor of chess boards in an initiative to stimulate critical thinking. Kids from a variety of backgrounds are learning to speak the universal language of chess, as they engage in First Move, a nonprofit launched to encourage students as young as five to adopt savvy skills from the century-old game.

NBC reports
that educators hope that this program, currently available in 27 states with plans for international expansion, will translate skills like "fairness, strategy, and gamesmanship" from chess board to real life.
