Sanrio's Small Gift Los Angeles At The Santa Monica Barker Hangar

Sanrio Celebrates 50 Years With A 'Small Gift'

Who: Calling all Hello Kitty and Sanrio fans!

What: Sanrio is celebrating 50 years of adorable Japanese culture with Small Gift Los Angeles, an art gallery, carnival, mobile food court, and pop-up shop in Santa Monica.

When: The festival runs from November 12-21. See daily schedule here.

Where: Barker Hangar, 3021 Airport Avenue, Santa Monica, CA 90405

How: Entrance to the festival and all events is free except for the "I Heart Nerds" party and "Retro 80s Prom."

Why: It'll be twee overload at this Kawaii (Japanese term meaning "lovability", "cuteness" or "adorableness") Carnival Celebration of your favorite Sanrio characters. The first Saturday there's an all-day Fan Appreciation event followed by an "I Heart Nerds" party in the evening (tickets required). The final Saturday closes the festival out with an all-day art event and an 80s Retro Prom (tickets required). Don't worry, it isn't all fluff--the festival also features art inspired by Sanrio from fifty artists, as well as eleven art installation rooms by "64 Colors, Anna Chambers, Buff Monster, Crowded Teeth, Dan Goodsell, Joe Ledbetter, Neivz, Peekaboo Monster, Plasticgod, Sharktoof, and Tim Diet." For snacks, the mobile food court features treats from Beard Papa (naturally), Yogurtland, and the Grilled Cheese Truck. And just imagine the shopping to be had at the pop-up shop: trinkets, toys, and accessories showcasing Hello Kitty, Little Twin Stars, Chococat, Badtz-Maru and more will make for some big smiles this holiday season.
