THE DETAILS GUILD Mural in the Meatpacking District

PUBLIC ART: Artist Nate Lowman, Minors Painting At THE DETAILS GUILD Mural

WHAT: The DETAILS GUILD

WHEN: November 20, 2010- February 2011

WHERE: West 13th Street between Washington Street and 10th Avenue New York City, NY

WHY:
Between Blek Le Rat's political graffiti and Slater Bradley's doomed teen idols, there's plenty for a young person to admire. By choosing these artists to kick off their community art initiative, the DETAILS GUILD has taken a direct approach to art education. The project, launched in September by Details magazine, lets its artists have free rein on a wall in Manhattan's Meatpacking District; the latest incarnation, by artist Nate Lowman and his young assistants from Free Arts NYC, affirms the presence art education in one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the city.

When asked why he wanted to participate in the DETAILS GUILD he said, "I thought it would be interesting. I don't really have access to teenagers and forgot what it was like to be one. If one of these kids end up liking art that much more after this project, that's cool."
