Cory Gardner, Scott Tipton Not Among 19 Seats Targeted By Dems For 2012

DCCC Leaves Colorado Seats Off Of 2012 Targets List

Just 3 months after the 2010 midterms, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DSCC) is already targeting 19 House Republicans who may be vulnerable in 2012. Not among those 19 are Colorado's two freshmen representatives Cory Gardner (CD-4) and Scott Tipton (CD-3).

The DCCC released a list on Monday of 19 House Republicans who will be the subject of radio and Web attack ads in the coming weeks.

As The Hill notes, ten of the districts the DSCC is targeting were carried by Obama in 2008 and Kerry in 2004.

DSCC chair Steve Israel said in December that those seats would form the backbone of Democrats' 2012 strategy.

Neither Tipton nor Gardner, whose districts voted voted for McCain in 2008 and Bush in 2004, were included on the Democrats' initial list.

Gardner defeated incumbent rookie Democrat Betsy Markey in November, while Tipton edged out veteran John Salazar.

Salazar likely won't run again in 2012 after initially hinting he'd challenge Tipton. Markey has left the door open to another run..
