Global Drug Trafficking Trends

With the increased influence of the Internet, the production of so-called "designer drugs" is soaring out of control throughout muh of the world, a new report has found.

Produced by the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), the annual report tracks major trends in drug abuse and trafficking around the world, according to the AFP. Also among this year's findings: several agencies reported the abuse of prescription drugs as the greatest drug-related threat over cocaine and heroin in the United States from 2007 to 2009. Eastern Europe is one of the few areas in the world where HIV prevalence is on the rise, with severe and spreading epidemics in nations like Russia and Ukraine. On the brighter side, cannabis seems to be on the decline throughout most of the European continent.
