Brooklyn Parents Diagnosed With Cancer In Same Week, Friends Appeal For Help (VIDEO)

Young Parents Diagnosed With Advanced Cancer In Same Week

A heartbreaking story out of Brooklyn today of couple Nathan and Elisa Bond, who have an 18-month old daughter, who were both diagnosed with advanced cancer within just 9 days of each other.

From CBS News:

In a nine-day span, both Nathan Bond, 38, and his wife, 36-year-old Elisa, learned that they have advanced cancer. Nathan found out on Valentine's Day.

Nathan has Stage 3 colorectal cancer. He has been given given a 60% chance of surviving five years or more. Elisa has Stage 4 breast cancer and has just a 16% chance of surviving five years.

The grueling routine of chemotherapy and treatment has forced the Bay Ridge parents to take medical leaves from their jobs, The New York Daily News reports. Nathan is an artist who works at Parsons, and Elisa is a real estate agent.

Friends and family of the couple, who met in 2004 and married in 2005, have rallied in support, driving the couple to doctor's appointments and taking care of their young daughter, Sadie. A website has also been created to raise money for the couple who are facing medical bills not covered by insurance. (Visit the website here if you'd like to donate).

Friends, calling themselves Team Bond, also put together the video below, telling the couple's story and "Calling all friends...and friends of friends" to help the couple defy the odds.
