CNN Ratings Surge On Government Shutdown News

CNN's Ratings Surge

Just as some unflattering coverage of CNN's ratings started making it into the press, the network surged to a ratings victory over rival MSNBC on Thursday. CNN rode the wave of government shutdown news to a win, beating MSNBC in the key A25-54 demo. CNN drew 320,000 viewers to MSNBC's 273,000. This came on the same day that the New York Times noted CNN's loss to MSNBC (and to Fox News, the perennial leader) on Wednesday night.

A big victor was Anderson Cooper, who topped rival Ed Schultz by a hefty margin in the demo, drawing 408,000 viewers to Schultz' 251,000.
