Red Sox Get First Win, Top Yankees 9-6

FINALLY

The Boston Red Sox have finally recorded their first win of 2011.

After an embarrassing 0-6 start, including a 0-1 loss to the Indians yesterday, the Sox were finally able to record a win. Perhaps fittingly it came against New York.

Despite an early two runs by the Yankees in the first inning, the Red Sox stormed back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the second with solid hitting against Phil Hughes. Hughes gave up 6 runs in the first two innings before being pulled.

Boston spread its scoring to everyone, though Dustin Pedroia performed with three hits, three RBIs and and two runs scored. Alex Rodriguez scored three runs for the Yankees but only recorded one RBI.

The Yankees, by contrast, are now 4-3, 1.5 games behind Baltimore, who have gotten off to an early lead in the AL East. Tampa Bay trails the division at 0-6.
