Long Weekend Accidents Claim 5 In Ont.

The long weekend is proving deadly for motorists on Ontario highways. As of Sunday afternoon, five people have died on roads patrolled by provincial police with Monday still to come.

One person was killed Friday afternoon in a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer near Orangeville, Ont.

Another died on Friday night when a car collided with a train in Rainy River, Ont., near the Manitoba border.

On Saturday, two people died in a head-on crash about 55 kilometres east of Peterborough, Ont., near Campbellford.

A pedestrian was also killed while crossing Highway 417 in Ottawa.

Last Victoria Day weekend, four people were killed in three separate collisions on OPP-patrolled roads.
