My Denver: 13 Questions For John Elway

Who: John Elway

Years In Denver: 28

Current Neighborhood: Englewood

Current Gig: Executive Vice President of Operations for the Denver Broncos.

What do you love most about Denver? There’s definitely a sense of community here. I love the passion of the fans about their teams.

How has Denver changed from your early years to now?It seems that it has been evolving from a town to a city. I am partial to the community feel of the town.

What are 3 local meals you can’t live without? The other Elway’s (my house). My wife Paige is a good cook. I’m also a big fan of the Hacienda’s.

Favorite beer in Colorado?I have to be honest… I did those ads for Coors several years back because I’ve always been a fan of both Original and the Bullets. Coors is my beer of choice. I don’t drink many micro brews.

Favorite outdoor activity (besides football, of course)? Golf is No. 1.

What’s going on with the NFL lockout? We’re all waiting to see. When you have two sides arguing, it can take a while to resolve. I’m as frustrated as the fans are, as this is my first year back with the team. I want to get back to work.

What’s the biggest challenge you are facing in your new front office position at the Broncos? There’s no one single challenge other than the job itself. I’m trying to learn about all facets of the football business. It’s a large operation and it will take years to completely grasp. I’m really enjoying myself, as well as the people, over at the Broncos.

What’s one thing you learned from your father about assessing a football player’s talent? He said to not get consumed by the numbers. Whether it’s statistics or 40-yard-dash times, they don’t tell the whole story. So, try to assess what type of football player they are first. You are going to have to trust your eyes more than the numbers.

What are your hopes for the Broncos this season? Wins. Lots of wins.

When are you running for U.S. President? Seriously, do you have any plans for political office? I’m already a Vice President. That works for me.

What is on your weekend must-do list? Barbecuing

What’s next for you?I’ve been named the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Broncos, and they are my focus. I have great partners in the other businesses, and they are established, so I don’t have to worry as much about them.

In a word, Denver is...HOME.
