Despite their high ambitions, Libya's rebel forces of civilians and army defectors find themselves suffering from a severe lack of weaponry. Hence, as the Atlantic reports, many are looking for new and innovative ways to modify existing arms into stronger weapons capable of fighting back against Muammar Gaddafi's heavily armed troops.
In this clip, Abdulsalam Elshien of the "Free Libya Martyrs" brigade describes the C5 Missile Launcher, which is essentially an aircraft rocket launcher which the rebels have now re-installed on the back of a pickup truck. "Our weapons and ammunition are simple, and we use any weapon available to us," he says. "We have youth, praise be to Allah...we have civil engineers, we have welders working with us."
Elshien insists that despite their crude appearance, the makeshift weapons have successfully intimidated Gaddafi's more powerful forces. "Praise be to Allah, it has had an effect on the enemy," he says.
