Ronald Brownstein, editorial director of the National Journal, will join the ABC News political team as news coverage of the 2012 presidential election gets underway.
ABC News President Ben Sherwood announced the addition on Monday, calling Brownstein "one of the country's preeminent political journalists." Brownstein, who directs National Journal's long-term editorial strategy, previously contributed to the network's coverage of election night in 2010. The announcement comes a month after National Journal announced that it will partner with CBS News to cover the 2012 presidential campaign.
Last month, ABC also announced the assignment of digital reporters covering candidates on the campaign trail, and an expanded role for political strategist Matthew Dowd through the 2012 election.
