Brandon Melcic Fired Gun Over Facebook Dispute After Rival Threw Rocks At His House

Unfriended: Man Fires Gun Over Facebook Dispute

Brandon Melcic, a 24-year-old from Portage, Indiana, was arrested Sunday night after allegedly firing his .38-caliber handgun into the ground outside his home.

He brandished his gun, according to the Northwest Indiana Times, because of a confrontation on Facebook that spilled over into the real world.

When authorities arrived on the scene, a 26-year-old man from California was also present. He said that he'd showed up at the house to confront Melcic about some derogatory comments Melcic allegedly posted on the social media site.

Melcic says he shot the gun at the ground to try to scare the man away.

As you might expect from two rivals in an online flame-war, though, they don't exactly agree on the details of how the incident went down.

The 26-year-old, who was not charged, says he never got closer to the house than the sidewalk; Melcic and others in the house say he walked up to the building and punched its siding, and damage supported that claim, according to the Post-Tribune. For his part, Melcic says he never left his porch, but a spent bullet casing was found 20 feet into the yard.

In any event, Melcic was arrested and charged with criminal recklessness and firearms violations.

According to publicly available information on his Facebook page, Melcic is a fan of Eminem, Tosh.0 and sleeping.
