MTV Video Music Awards Adds New Category: 'Best Video With A Message'

Does Katy Perry's 'Firework' Video Make You Feel Special?

Does watching Katy Perry's "Firework" video make you feel like you're special?

Then go vote for it -- MTV has announced that the 2011 VMAs will feature a new category, "Best Video with a Message." The category "celebrates the union between music and social activism, and highlights artists who created music videos that made us think about the world around us," according to MTV Act.

The nominated videos span the spectrum. Rise Against's "Make It Stop (September's Children), which includes a list of gay teens who have killed themselves, speaks out for LGBT youth, whereas songs like Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" and P!nk's "F****** Perfect" preach self-love and acceptance. It's too bad for Christina Aguilera that this category wasn't around when she came out with "Beautiful."

So what music videos make the cut when it comes to sparking social action? Watch the nominees below:

P!nk – “F****** Perfect”

Lady Gaga – “Born This Way”

Katy Perry – “Firework”

Eminem feat. Rihanna – “Love The Way You Lie”

Rise Against – “Make it Stop (September’s Children)”

Taylor Swift – “Mean”
