Los Angeles Earthquake: Mild Quake Hits Metro Region

Los Angeles Earthquake

A mild earthquake shook the Los Angeles area on Thursday afternoon.

The quake was felt in Woodland Hills, Santa Monica and downtown L.A., The Los Angeles Times reports.

It had a magnitude of 4.3 and depth of approximately 4.6 miles, per the USGS.

The USGS estimates that 80,000 people may have felt the moderate shaking; 466,000 people light shaking; and 4.6 million weak shaking.

County Fire Department Inspector Matt Levesque told the Associated Press there does not appear to be any damage.

The USGS recorded several aftershocks.

Chatsworth Patch notes that the earthquake hit near the epicenter of the 6.6 magnitude San Fernando earthquake of 1971.
