'Premium Rush' Trailer: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Rides In New York City (VIDEO)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Spins Out Of Control In NYC

Before he can take on ultimate evil in the troubled streets of Gotham, Joseph Gordon-Levitt has some high stakes fighting to do in New York City.

Set to play good guy cop Detective John Blake in "The Dark Knight Rises," Gordon-Levitt takes on corrupt police in "Premium Rush," an action flick in which he plays a fast-living, risk taking bike messenger with a delivery that's way more than a simple telegram or love letter. The film's first trailer doesn't reveal what the mysterious envelope he's been charged to deliver contains, but suffice to say, it's pretty important.

Michael Shannon, the good cop in "Boardwalk Empire" and bad general in the upcoming "Man of Steel," splits the difference as a corrupt officer trying to get the package back from JGL's determined, stunt devil character. There's a lot of high level shenanigans going on, too, raising the drama to intense levels.

The film is directed by David Koepp, best known for his screenplay work on films such as "Jurassic Park" and "Spiderman." He's also directed a few films, including the Johnny Depp-starrer "Secret Window" and the Ricky Gervais flick, "Ghost Town."

"Premium Rush" hits theaters in January; Joseph Gordon-Levitt can next be seen in the upcoming film, "50/50" with Seth Rogen.
