Cops Find 7,000 Pounds Of Pot Hidden In Southwest Side Warehouse

Chicago Police Narcotics officers on Tuesday recovered approximately 7,000 pounds of marijuana in a West Englewood warehouse on the city's Southwest Side.

According to Fox Chicago, an anonymous tip directed police to the warehouse, located in the 2100 block of West 74th Street. When police checked it out, they discovered and confiscated the weed hidden among pallets filled with cilantro.

The building's owner claims that he was not aware of any illegal activity happening in the warehouse and cooperated with the officers' search of the premises.

The drugs are estimated to have a street value of approximately $20 million, police said. As of Wednesday morning, NBC 5 reports that no one was in custody related to the found marijuana. A police investigation into the cannabis is ongoing.

In other marijuana-related Chicagoland news, a Bensenville man, 29-year-old Ismael Garcia-Gomez, was arrested Friday after he was caught tending to between 100 and 150 marijuana plants he allegedly grew at Cricket Creek Forest Preserve in Addison, the Daily Herald reports. He was charged with production and possession of cannabis, criminal damage to property, possession of drug paraphrenalia and littering. As of Tuesday, he was being held in DuPage jail on $75,000 bail.
