Planned Parenthood Video Helps Parents Have 'The Talk' With Their Kids

A stork. The cabbage patch. That thing the birds do with the bees. There's a reason why parents turn to euphemisms when faced with the inevitable "Where do babies come from?" question. Except sometimes there are other harder-to-answer questions: "Can you get pregnant the first time you have sex?" and "How do you know if you're gay?", just to name a couple. Whether your child is two or 12, these conversations about S-E-X are bound to be awkward. (One of our editors found herself in a drawn out, back-and-forth with her son about the uses of ... tampons.)

A new video released by Planned Parenthood finds the funny in the subject. Beginning with the ominous warning, "In every parent's life this moment will arrive ..." it quickly cuts to a montage of adorable children asking uncomfortable questions about gender, sexuality and their bodies -- as well as some true-to-life looks of shock on the faces of their fictional parents.

"Check Wikipedia.com," one mom tells her curious daughter.

Avoiding the subject isn't uncommon at all. Although 82 percent of parents are having some sort of sex talk with their kids, many caregivers aren't touching on more complicated topics, such as consent and birth control. A 2009 study found that 40 percent of adolescents had sex before discussing the subject with their parents.

It's all pretty cute and worth watching for a laugh. But, we love this video for its ending. Instead of just giving viewers the always-enjoyable Hilarious Kids Being Hilarious, we also get practical -- and dare we say life-saving? -- dos and don'ts for having "the talk."
