Karl Lagerfeld's New Affordable Line, Karl, To Debut In January

Karl Lagerfeld's Brand New Line

Karl Lagerfeld has done Macy's, he's famously done H&M -- now it's time for the iconic designer to launch his own "masstige" line.

Women's Wear Daily reports this morning that the Kaiser will launch Karl, a "rock 'n roll-flavored" collection for the affordable, masstige market.

The line, with 100 pieces priced around $95 to $450, will debut exclusively on Net-a-porter.com on January 25 and add sales on karllagerfeld.com on February 28.

WWD described a few of the looks, including "silvery jeans and Perfecto-style vests to an elegant black cocktail dress with a plunging back, some of them accessorized a la Karl with fingerless gloves and detachable, demonstrative collars."

While the signature black and white color palette sounds like its in place, the rocker chick vibe is a departure from Karl's earlier adventures into mass market. The Kaiser's Macy's collection, which bowed August 31, featured chic, tailored separates and feminine dresses. The new Karl line, aimed at the late teenage-early twenties set, boasts leather, denim and other more youthful markers.

Along the same lines, Karl will be mainly an online effort. WWD spoke to the line's new president, Pier Paolo Righi, who said that "the masstige venture is designed to be primarily Web-based, as the designer is convinced it's the main way to connect and communicate with today's young generation."

So will young, fashion-savvy women log on to buy an affordable piece of Karl? That's a no-brainer.
