Aaron Carter Joins 'The Fantasticks' Off-Broadway Show

Aaron Carter Out Of Rehab, In The Spotlight

Former teen idol Aaron Carter has been cast in the Off-Broadway show "The Fantastics," Playbill reports, entering the storied history of the world's longest running musical.

"Never in the 51-year-history of 'The Fantasticks' have we opted to cast someone with Aaron Carter’s level of fame, instead quietly enjoying our reputation for giving many future stars their first professional performing gig," Tom Jones, the show's book writer, said in a statement, enthusing about his newest star. Carter will play Matt, one half of the show's young (and tricked) couple.

I've been going to every show to study, & no lie it's the greatest show EVER!" Carter tweeted yesterday. He also told a fan, "I turned my life around. It's only uphill from this point for me."

In fact, this won't be Carter's first turn on stage; in 2001, he featured in "Seussical The Musical" on Broadway.

It's hard to believe that former teen idol Aaron Carter is just 23 years old, given his meteoric rise to stardom and the long, rocky road he's traveled over the past few years. His fame waned after his mega-successful first album, which sold 1.5 million copies, though he did date both Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff. He ended up on "Dancing With The Stars" in 2009 after being arrested for pot possession the year before; he entered a rehab facility in January of this year.
