D.C. Venture Capital Deals Down, Following National Trend

WASHINGTON -- Following the national trend, venture capital in the Washington D.C. metroplex region was down markedly in the third quarter, seeing 32 deals worth a combined $236.86 million versus 46 deals at $357.93 million the prior quarter.

Nationally, there were 876 deals worth $6.95 billion compared to 1,015 deals worth $7.88 billion for the same periods respectively.

McLean, Va.-based Cvent was the recipient of one of the largest deals last quarter, hauling in $135.87 million from Greenspring Associates, Insight Venture Partners and New Enterprise Associates.

Industry wide, software received the highest level of funding with $2.0 billion last quarter, followed by biotechnology, with $1.1 billion, according to a report by the National Venture Capital Association and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
