Common Threads' Inaugural World Festival Fundraiser At London The West Hollywood

Get Fed By Top Chefs At A Swanky Hotel For A Good Cause

Have you ever wanted to be one of the faces in the crowd chowing down at a "Top Chef" event? The upcoming season was filmed in Texas, but you can get the next best thing in West Hollywood this Tuesday at the Common Threads' Inaugural World Festival fundraiser.

Chefs Chris "CJ" Jacobson from The Yard Santa Monica (Season 3), Antonia Lofaso of Black Market Liquor Bar (Season 4) and Stefan Richter of Stefan's at LA Farm (Season 5) have all thrown their toques for a good cause -- healthy cooking classes for underserved children in Boyle Heights and South Los Angeles. Chef Nyesha Arrington of Wilshire Restaurant, who will appear in the next season, is also serving up some grub.

Common Threads was started in Chicago by Art Smith (Oprah Winfrey's formal personal chef) to combat childhood obesity by teaching kids (8-12 years old) how to cook healthy meals. Los Angeles got in on it in 2007, when they offered classes at the Challenger Boys and Girls Club in South Central and Para Los Ninos in Boyle Heights. With almost one quarter of all Los Angeles County kids tipping the scales at "obese," the classes couldn't come a moment too soon.
