Kollin Elderts Killed In McDonald's Shooting

Federal Agent Charged In McDonald's Shoting

Associated Press

HONOLULU -- Authorities say a federal agent has been charged in a fatal shooting at a McDonald's in Hawaii.

Honolulu Police Lt. Dwight Rodrigues says the victim has been identified as 23-year-old Kollin Elderts, a resident of Windward Oahu.

The shooting early Saturday in Waikiki comes as security is ramped up in the area ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which starts Tuesday. It was unclear whether Deedy was in Hawaii for APEC.

Rodrigues says Elderts suffered a single gunshot wound.

It was unclear whether the victim and suspect new each other.

Police say Deedy was arrested a short distance from the restaurant. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported he is a special agent with the U.S. State Department.

It remained unclear whether the two men knew each other.
