Hollywood Remakes: 8 Remade Classics Set For Release In 2012

Shock! 8 Classic Films To Be Remade

In the last month and a half, two Hollywood remakes -- Screen Gems' "Straw Dogs" and Universal's "The Thing" -- tanked at the box office, earning back half of their production costs. The failure of both films to break even on ticket sales, not to mention the equally negative responses they received from fans and critics alike, begs the question: "Can remakes make it in the 21 century?"

Sure, the execution of a film like 2001's "Ocean's 11" or 2006's "The Departed" proves that a remake of a film can be so tastefully and successfully done as to eclipse the legacy of the originals, but is this the exception or the rule?

Either way, Hollywood's obsession with remaking nearly every film of the past century has not wavered in the slightest, with films as varied as "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids" and "All Quiet On The Western Front" being retooled for release in the near future.

With the 2012 film season rapidly approaching, Huff/Post50 decided to compile our list of eight remakes of classics from previous decades slated for release in the next year. Some of these movies sound to us like potential box office hits, others sound more like the cinematic equivalents to car wrecks, but we'll let you decide:
