Marijuana 'Christmas Present', Handgun Confiscated By LAX Security

Somebody's Christmas is going to be a little less merry this year. Authorities at Los Angeles International Airport arrested a traveler for attempting to smuggle marijuana inside boxes wrapped as Christmas presents onto a flight.

Derik Dwayne Neely, 32, of Flint, Michigan, was arrested on suspicion of transporting marijuana for sale, reports The Daily Breeze. Neely, who was bound for Cleveland, was taken into custody Wednesday after 120 pounds of pot were found inside his baggage, according to TSA spokesman Nico Melendez.

However, airport officials pegged that number as closer to 35 pounds.

Earlier that day, Keith Dinicola, 55, was heading home to Tucson Arizona, when he was arrested for possessing a .45-caliber handgun and two loaded ammunition magazines in his carry on.

Dinicola told authorities he forgot he had the weapon, but was "booked on suspicion of possessing a concealed firearm without a permit."

Certainly, this isn't the first time marijuana has caused an airport incident. Last year, a California woman was busted with 506 pounds of pot on a private jet. And, in August, a suspicious powder on a Spirit Airlines plane turned out to be pot.

Oh, and if we're talking drugs, in June, JFK officials found five pounds of coke in an abandoned suitcase.
