Joe Scarborough: Rod Blagojevich's Sentence Is 'Total BS' (VIDEO)

Joe Rages At Balgojevich Sentence: 'Total BS!'

Rod Blagojevich's prison sentence set off a heated exchange between Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough on Thursday's "Morning Joe." The exchange came to a head when Scarborough called the sentence "BS" and some viewers at home "idiots."

On Wednesday, Blagojevich received a 14-year prison sentence on charges of corruption, including trying to sell President Obama's vacated Senate seat. The former Illinois governor is expected to serve at least twelve years, in the harshest sentence of those handed to the four Illinois governors who have gone to jail in the past four decades.

Scarborough called the sentence "so excessive" on Thursday, and reacted powerfully when Brzezinski came down on Blagojevich. "So you're gonna send a man to jail and keep him from his kids and family for fourteen years?" Scarborough asked. "So you've got no problem with him being sentenced for fourteen years when people who rape little children -- " He pointed out that "there are people who rape children who get probation."

"I mean, come on!" Scarborough thundered. "This is total BS! Total BS!"

When Brzezinski tried to return to the subject of Blagojevich's offenses, Scarborough maintained that he was objecting to the fairness of the sentence, not whether Blagojevich was guilty.

"For the idiots involved at home who think we are defending what Rod Blagojevich did, you are an idiot and you are too stupid to watch TV, so turn off your TV set and slowly step away and go back to bed," he directed.
