Man Discovers Massive Lung Tumor After Motel Shooting

If he hadn't been shot, he may not have made it.

A Florida man says that doctors saved his life after a bullet wound led to the discovery of a massive tumor in his lung, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Dan D'Amato, 45, was visiting a Knights Inn last November to meet two prostitutes for a "24-hour party" when at approximately 4:00 a.m. a gunman fired an AK-47 at the Orange Blossom Trail motel, the Associated Press reports.

"It was like all hell broke loose in that room," D'Amato told the newspaper. "All I know is it was like the Wild West in there. Pure chaos."

One bullet struck D'Amato, leading him to the hospital where doctors discovered a large tumor and removed half of one of his lungs.

Police did not know who the shooter was targeting.

D'Amaton says that he plans to re-invent himself with his new lease on life.
