Rose Bowl 2012: De'Anthony Thomas Scores 91-Yard Touchdown For Oregon (VIDEO)

Ducks Running Back Breaks Rose Bowl Record

The 2012 Rose Bowl was certainly one for the history books. Oregon and Wisconsin not only played the highest-scoring Rose Bowl ever, but the Ducks also set Rose Bowl records for most yards per play (9.7) and yards per rush (8.63) in their 45-38 victory.

Running back De'Anthony Thomas had something to do with that.

The Ducks were down 14-7 in the final seconds of the first quarter when the freshman made arguably the highlight of the game. Backed up to his own 9-yard line, quarterback Darron Thomas took the snap in shotgun formation and handed it off to Thomas on his left. The 5'9 Los Angeles native burst up the middle seemingly untouched, cut back to the outside and left the Wisconsin with no chance of catching him.

The 91-yard touchdown run was the longest ever from scrimmage in a Rose Bowl, surpassing Michigan's Tyrone Wheatley's bowl-record 88-yard run in 1993. To open the second half, Thomas scored a 64-yard rushing touchdown with his only other carry of the game (so he averaged 77.5 yards per carry).
