Katy Perry First Post-Divorce Appearance Canceled; Singer Backs Out Of People's Choice Awards

Katy Perry Backs Out Of People's Choice Awards

Katy Perry will no longer be making her first post-divorce appearance at the People's Choice Awards Wednesday night.

The "Last Friday Night" singer surprised fans last week when it was announced she'd be making an appearance at the award show, only two short weeks after her split from Russell Brand was revealed. On December 30th, Brand filed for divorce in Los Angeles, California surprising fans and friends of the couple. He later released a statement to PEOPLE, saying, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Since the split was revealed, Brand has been spotted out in London, but Perry has kept relatively quiet. This weekend she took to Twitter slamming the media for unsubstantiated reports saying, "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, "close sources" or my family." More importantly, she broke her silence to thank fans for their love and support.
