Joe Biden: Newt Gingrich Is A 'Talented Guy'

WASHINGTON -- Vice President Joe Biden said he can't find "any fundamental difference" between Republican presidential rivals Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, even though the two are fighting each other fiercely for the party's nomination.

Asked in a nationally broadcast interview to comment on the race in the GOP for a candidate to challenge President Barack Obama, Biden called "a Republican fight."

Biden, however, praised Gingrich. "Newt Gingrich is a talented guy. You know, the guy is really good, he's a great debater," he said.

However, on the critical issues facing the nation, including economic strategy and foreign affairs, Biden said that both Gingrich and Romney are pushing policies that the Obama administration doesn't embrace.

The vice president made the comments in an interview Wednesday on "CBS This Morning."

When asked Wednesday about the allegation from Gingrich's second ex-wife, Marianne Gingrich, that the former House Speaker wanted an "open marriage," Biden said he had no comment. He continued, "Look this is quicksand...I think that Newt Gingrich, as we all are, is going to be judged by the voters in the primary on the totality of who he is, and that includes everything. People make judgments about our character. They make judgments about our positions. I just don't have any comment."
