Oscars 2012: Cirque du Soleil In, 'Breaking Dawn' Stars Out

"I don't think it's going to happen," says a source involved in the Oscar preproduction, even though both Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have presented before and have films to promote (Pattinson's "Bel Ami" opens just a few days after the awards and Stewart's "Snow White and the Huntsman" hits theaters on June 1.) E! apparently didn't inquire about the likelihood of Taylor Lautner showing up (he co-presented with Stewart at the 2010 ceremony).

However, don't worry Twi-hards! The Academy will make it up to you with, uh ... Cirque du Soleil. The international troupe, who performed at the Oscars in 2002, is set to return for this year's ceremony.

Over 50 Cirque performers will take part in the one-time-only, three-minute show that will "pay tribute to the movie-theater experience," according to Yasmine Khalil, the troupe's special events director.

Their Oscar night performance will be different from Cirque's current show at the Kodak, "Iris," which is billed as "a journey into the world of cinema." The performers have been working on their routine since before Christmas.

"To capture 50 people jumping around everywhere from the ceiling and from the ground and right and left and center, it's a whole added challenge," Khalil said, adding that viewers "should be very attentive. You don't want to be blinking too much because you might miss something." (Isn't that what DVRs are for?)
