Detroit Public Library To Reopen Two Branches, Introduce E-books For First Time

Two Library Branches Staying Open With Reduced Hours

Two previously shuttered Detroit libraries will reopen in the coming weeks with drastically reduced hours, a move commissioners and staffers say is not ideal but better than closure.

The Detroit Public Library board of commissioners approved modified hours for the Monteith branch on the city's east side, dropping from four days week to, depending on which week, two or three days week. Monteith will rotate weekend hours with the Chandler Park branch, which currently operates three days a week.
