Miami Marlins Vs. Miami Hurricanes: Fish Win First Game In New Ballpark (PHOTOS)

Well, the roof works!

In the first game the Miami Marlins ever played in their shiny new spaceballpark, the Fish squeaked by crosstown rivals the Miami Hurricanes 7-6 in the 9th and no one destroyed a knee in a puff of shaving cream pie.

For the Marlins -- baseball's winning equivalent of monkeys typing Shakespeare twice, now with considerable Twitter skills -- it was pretty much as good a no-count start as sports fans could ever ask for (and not just because the infamous Red Grooms home run feature isn't fully operational yet). Hanley Ramirez notched the new park's first homer in the fourth inning off Alexander Fernandez, the son of former Marlins pitcher Alex Fernandez, and former UM star Gaby Sanchez went down swinging against his old team, giving Canes fans something more to take home than a reminder they were dancing on their very own grave.

As for the park itself? While players were luxuriating in loud bat noises and an ultra-plush locker room -- "Does it smell like rich mahogany in here to you?" asked left fielder Logan Morrison -- reviews from the cheap seats were slightly more mixed.

But, well, what the hey: it sure is pretty! Check out images from the Marlins' big win, under a moving, hydraulic sky:
