Rachel Maddow: GOP Primary Like 'Watching A Drunk Try To Get Their Key In The Door' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Maddow's Hilarious Drunk Impersonation

Rachel Maddow catalogued what she called the "long, drawn-out mess" of the Republican presidential nominating contest on her Monday show — and she capped it off with a delightfully random impression of a drunken Iowan.

It was "Super Tuesday Eve," as Maddow put it — the night before the biggest cluster of primaries thus far in the campaign. She ran through the many different problems that have arisen during the election season, from the failure of half the candidates to qualify for the Virginia ballot to the many discrepancies in the vote count across the country. Seven states, she said, have had "huge screw-ups" their count.

"Watching the Republicans try to pick their nominee this year, it's like watching a drunk try to get their key in the door," she said, before launching into a surreal, hilarious impression of a drunk election counter in Iowa (where first Mitt Romney, and then Rick Santorum, were declared the winners). "Iowa's a drunk mess!" she cried.

Maddow also read, verbatim, part of the results of a damning NBC News poll question, which asked people to give a word that described their impressions of the Republican primary. She quoted Republican respondents as replying with, among other things, "discouraged," "painful," "disappointed," and "depressed."
