Officers Risk Lives To Rescue Man From Burning Car (VIDEO)

WATCH: Man Rescued From Burning Car By Policemen

Two Keizer, Ore., police officers were bestowed with Medals of Valor on Monday after risking their lives to rescue a man from a burning car, KATU reports.

The speeding car had crashed into a utility pole, sparking a roaring fire. The car also flipped upside down, trapping the driver within.

Witnessing this, Sgt. Andrew Copeland and Officer Rodney Bamford sprang into action.

The rescue, however, was not an easy one. Disoriented, the man initially refused to be pulled to safety. The fire was quickly spreading, endangering the policemen.

"It was to the point where I was afraid my uniform shirt was going to start melting because it's polyester," Bamford said.

Thankfully, they pulled the man to safety before anyone got hurt.

The Medal of Valor citation praised the officers' "quick thinking and willingness to risk their own safety," KATU reports.

The incident, which happened last September, was captured on the dashboard video camera mounted in Copeland's police cruiser.
