MSNBC's Ed Schultz attacked Bill O'Reilly on Thursday after the Fox News host clashed with Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar about gas prices on "The View."
During his appearance, O'Reilly said that GOP candidate Mitt Romney could beat President Obama in a general election because gas prices are currently increasing. Host Joy Behar interrupted O'Reilly and said that everybody knows gas prices have to do with world affairs, not President Obama. O'Reilly said that he was unaware of that fact.
"Oh but he does know that! Take it from the man himself," Schultz said. He then played a clip of O'Reilly speaking on his Fox News show in 2008. "So the next time you hear a politician say that he or she will bring down oil prices, understand it is complete b.s.," O'Reilly told his audience.
Schultz reveled in this moment and said, "Oooh, the tape doesn't lie, does it!"
Schultz played more clips of O'Reilly clashing with Goldberg over gas prices on "The View." Goldberg pressed that gas prices increase every several years, regardless of who the president is in office. O'Reilly disagreed and said it was because Obama was not solving the problem of speculation.
"O'Reilly- he's got a point about speculation," Schultz said. "But four years ago, he offered different options to solve high gas prices." Schultz went to the same 2008 segment from "The O'Reilly Factor," in which the Fox News host encouraged his audience to cut back on fuel consumption. "If Americans want lower gas prices, cut back. Sell those SUVs. Ride a bike if you can. If every one of us bought 10 percent less gasoline, prices would fall fast."
Schultz then called O'Reilly a "huckster and a shill, who will twist facts to fit his conservative ideology," and made a plea for a future appearance on "The View." He said, "I've always wanted to go on 'The View'! What do I have to do, lie on this program!?"
